Papers from scientific journal need to be downloadable through internet, if not, the journal is invisible. – interdisciplinary – high quality contributions – high profile Editors + Editorial Board
-
Appropriate balance between applied and theoretical. The ONLY journal to focus on this issue of international significance. The correct audience is in place through IMWA – active scientific and engineering community in regular contact through the Association. The size of the audience and IMWA will increase if the journal is part of the citation index. For example, we will encourage our students far more to join and subscribe to MW&E.
-
The quantity and quality of papers will improve if the journal is listed. Currently, we hold back papers from MW&E because in out regard system a paper in a journal that is not in the citation index is no different to a trade magazine or conference paper.

Mine Water and the Environment appears to be the only journal dedicated to mining hydrogeology. I did a quick search and didn’t see any others. This is an expanding field, as outlined in the first point above, so will become ever more important in the next decade(s).
-
In present days water is everybody’s concern? Mine water related problems are getting attention of policy makers, production planner as well as R&D community. Thus, the targeted user community is very vast and spread all over the world. With particular reference to developing countries, effective utilization of mine water could be a unique selling point.
-
In my view, the items cited in the first point – the Journal covers the full range of mine water issues in a practically oriented way with input from all sectors working in the industry – it is not narrowly focused
-
Mine Water and the Environment is unique among geoscientific journals, because it collects papers that are clearly high-caliber scientific work, but is at the same time a valuable source of information for practicians in environmental management of mines, from mine-planning through active mining to post-closure mitigation. By providing scientific benchmarks, the journal is a must for everyone working on environmental impact studies of mines.
-
Large scale tests of theoretical hydrogeochemistry Environmental impacts that dwarf most other water pollution problems
-
I believe that the principal selling point is that the Journal of the IMWA is neither an “academic” nor “trade” Journal. The Journal offers a bridge between scientific research and practical application with the principal beneficiary being the natural environment in and around mine sites.
-
Importantly, a large portion is applied research, which in this field is needed on a “just-in-time” basis as mine reclamation specialists are designing drainage abatement projects. See Comment to question 1 for the timeliness of this information. The quality of both presentation and the scientific basis of the work of this publication is much higher than many other mine reclamation-related forums in the U.S.

it is unique as a Journal that integrates scientifical and technical aspects, including engineering solutions, on the consequences of minerals/water/ air / bacteria in the man-made mining environment. As such, it has a clear interest for the concerned actors mentioned on Point 1.
